Ashland District Laity Complete Training

The Ashland District completed its first Lay Academy of Church Excellence (LACE) training. LACE was developed through the cooperation of the Kentucky Conference Board of Laity and the Kentucky Conference Board of Lay Speaking Directors. The last session was held at the Tollesboro United Methodist Church and concluded with District Superintendent Mark Girard commissioning:
1. 16 local church lay speakers,
2. 10 certified lay speakers who had completed the course “Lay Speakers Lead in Mission Outreach,”
3. 10 certified lay speakers who had completed the course “Evangelism in the Small Membership Church” led by Royal Speidel, and
4. 18 who received their certificates for completion of the LACE program.

A total of 70 different lay people attended one or more sessions of the LACE program. Plans are under way to offer the LACE program again in 2009.
