2007 Charge Conference Gatherings

2007 Charge Conference Gatherings. . .

The Charge Conference Season will have a new look this year.  I am organizing the Charge Conference season into a weekend experience with an emphasis on teaching and worship.  Each county is going to be part of a Covenant Circle (see next page).  The schedule for the weekend includes:

·         A teaching time on Saturday morning from 10am – Noon.   Each pastor is expected to bring their leadership team for this training.  The first hour will focus on the new Assessment tool for pastors and churches.  The second hour will focus on Safe Sanctuaries and how the church is called to create safe places for children and youth.

·         A lite - lunch will follow the training for all participants.

·         Business of the Charge Conference:  In the afternoons I will visit each church to conduct the business of the charge Conference:   (approval of nominations of officers, approval of mission covenant and the rest of the Charge Conference Forms).  I am planning 30 minutes at each church.  If you have business that will take longer than 30 minutes, I will schedule another Charge Conference to deal with these matters.

·         Clergy Appreciation Dinner.   I am hosting a dinner for all clergy families, their spouses, retirees and surviving spouses prior to the Service of Celebration.

·         Service of Celebration:  All of the churches in the cluster will come together for one evening worship service.   The pastors in the cluster will plan the service and I will offer the message.

I wanted you to have this new format early so that you could plan your church calendar accordingly.  The Teaching Time will be hosted by a different church from the Celebration Service.  I will share those details with you at the District Picnic on Saturday August 25 (4pmCST with meal at 5pmCST) at Trinity United Methodist Church.  The main emphasis at this point is that you notify your leadership team and set aside the time and dates for our Charge Conference weekend.

As you know, the Charge Conference is the most important meeting of the year for the churches. My hope is that this format will allow us opportunity for fellowship, learning, celebration and encouragement.   Full participation from all pastors and churches is our expectation for a great weekend.  Again, the Charge Conference forms are already on the Conference website www.kyumc.org for those who wish to get an early start.

To Life,

Darren Brandon
