The Louise Bishop Ministerial Education Fund is made possible through a generous bequest of the late Mrs. Louise Bishop, a dedicated member of State Street United Methodist Church, Bowling Green, Kentucky.  At the time of her death on February 10, 1978, Mrs. Bishop’s will confirmed that she and her husband, Marshel, centered their lives around their love for Church, school, family and others.  This scholarship fund is a summation of their lives and a legacy of Christian ministry that “Though silent, they continue to speak.”

 

Guidelines

1.        The applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student in an approved seminary or a licensed local pastor who is attending seminary part-time or completing the required course of study.   

2.        The applicant must indicate financial need and intend to serve in the ministry of the United Methodist Church.

3.        First consideration will be given to ministerial students who are from or serving churches in the Bowling Green District.  Applicants with other special circumstances may be considered.    

4.        In the event that the student withdraws from his/her seminary education, the course of study, or discontinues his/her ministry in the United Methodist Church, repayment of the funds shall be made within two (2) years of the initial grant. 

5.        The maximum amount available to an applicant per year is $1000.  The maximum amount given per applicant over the course of his/her ministerial education is $5000.
