BISHOP'S AWARD FOR ECUMENISM

The Conference Commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns will present The Bishop's Award for Ecumenism to a person (Clergy or Lay) who has been and is a leader in the field of ecumenism in our Conference.  We need nominations sent to us by our pastors.  Pastors, would you send us names of those you think would qualify for this award, along with a paragraph or two about why they think their nominee would be a good condidate for this award?  We will select ten nominees, and ask those ten to complete a form which highlights their qualifications for the Bishop's Award.  We need to receive nominations (please include name and address) by May 1, 2008.

Nominees can be either a layperson or clergy.  Pastors, if you think you are a good nominee, don't be bashful about sending us your name (or have someone else send it to us).  Send your nominations to:

Rev. David Westerfield

HARRY DENMAN EVANGELISM AWARDS

The Foundation for Evangelism sponsors the Harry Denman Evangelism Awards to honor a United Methodist lay and clergy person in each annual conference who has exhibited unusual and outstanding efforts in Christian evangelism by faithfully carrying out the mission of "making disciples of Jesus Christ."  There are separate lay and clergy nomination forms for the Harry Denman Evangelism Awards.

Nomination forms and a brochure about the awards can be downloaded from this page. The deadline for returning the forms to Julie Love is May 1. Send nomination forms to Julie Love, 7400 Floydsburg Road, Crestwood, KY 40014.

EXPLORATION TEAM AWARD

The Ministerial Exploration Team of the Board of Ordained Ministry exists to support and guide those discerning a call into vocational ministry. As a part of that task we visit Kentucky United Methodist students in seminaries, we offer information for those sensing a call, we offer events to help people with that discernment, and we celebrate local churches who are nurturing members toward answering a call.

Clergy: If you have a story about how your local church helped to nurture your call or helped you in the discernment process, please send that story to our team.
Churches: If your congregation has a story about encouraging one of your members to explore and enter into ministry, send that story to our team.
We will read through your stories and pick one to highlight for all the conference to hear. Send your story to: Ministerial Exploration Team, c/o Jean Hawxhurst, Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church, 318 West St. Catherine Street, Louisville, KY 40203.

Send stories by May 16.

MISSION AMBASSADOR CHURCHES

Special recognition as Mission Ambassador Churches will be given during the 2008 Annual Conference session to those of our congregations who participate in at least five of the six tracks of mission giving during this Conference year.

The six tracks are:
• 100% of our Covenant Together commitment
• One World Advance Special
• One National Advance Special
• One Conference Advance Special
• A minimum of three (3) Special Day Offerings of the seven proposed by General   Conference and listed in the Discipline
• Giving to UMCOR (One Great Hour of Sharing or otherwise)

The Advance Specials are United Methodist ministries listed in the 2007 Journal or on the sheet you or your church should receive in the upcoming pre-conference mailing.

The deadline for reporting in order to be recognized at the 2008 Annual Conference is May 1.  Please send the list of how your church has met the criteria listed above to Howard Reynolds / 937 Village Green Av / Lexington, KY  40509 or e-mail it to howdeereynolds@windstream.net.  You can call him at 859-543-8581 if you have any questions.

At the 2007 Annual Conference, fourteen churches were recognized.  We believe that in recent years more churches have qualified for this award than have notified us, so PLEASE let us know if you meet the above criteria.
