 Harry Denman Evangelism Awards

The Foundation for Evangelism sponsors the Harry Denman Evangelism Awards to honor a United Methodist lay and clergy person in each annual conference who has exhibited unusual and outstanding efforts in Christian evangelism by faithfully carrying out the mission of "making disciples of Jesus Christ."  There are separate lay and clergy nomination forms for the Harry Denman Evangelism Awards.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from this page. The deadline for returning the forms to Julie Hager Love is April 20. Send nomination forms to Julie Love, 7400 Floydsburg Road, Crestwood, KY 40014.

Special Needs Ministry Recognition Awards

The Advocacy Team of the Kentucky Annual Conference will be giving “Special Needs Ministry Recognition Awards” at Annual Conference 2009. The awards recognize churches who are intentionally and actively involved in ministry with special needs persons. Some examples of special needs ministry are Sunday school classes for special needs people, accessibility improvements on church buildings, accessibility in worship services, outreach ministries geared toward people with special needs, etc.

If your church is carrying out ministry with people who have special needs, we want to recognize your ministry!

In order to be considered for an award, please submit the following information:
Description of the Ministry
* General scope of the ministry
* How is it meeting special needs of people?
* How/when did the ministry begin?
* How many people attend? (if applicable)

Contact Information
* Name of church and pastor
* Name, address, phone number, and e-mail of contact person

The deadline for all information to be submitted is April 20.

Mission Ambassador Congregations

God is truly at work and we trust each of our congregations wants to be part of this remarkable church movement! Does your church qualify as a Mission Ambassador Congregation? Participating churches will be recognized at Annual Conference. To qualify you need to participate in at least five of the six tracks, which are:
1. 100% of Our Mission Together Commitment
2. A World Advance Special
3. A National Advance Special
4. A Conference Advance Special
5. Receive at least three of the six Special Day Offerings
6. Give to UMCOR through the One Great Hour of Sharing or other emergency requests from them.

Any Advance Special project from the Partnership in Mission Catalog will qualify for a World or National Advance Special. For more information on all Advance Specials, go to http://new.gbgm-umc.org/Advance. A recommended list can also be found at www.kyumc.org/advancekac.

The deadline to be considered as a Mission Ambassador Church is April 20. Please email information on church participation in the above criteria to Jeanette Westerfield dajlwest@insightbb.com.

Bishop’s Award for Ecumenism

Who has shown a heart for ecumenism is your church? Your pastor? A lay person? You are invited to nominate them for the Bishop’s Award for Ecumenism which will be given at Annual Conference.

Please write a letter sharing why this person should be recognized for the ministry in ecumenism and send to Jan Brown-Thompson (msjanbt@aol.com) by April 20.

Francis Asbury Award

The Francis Asbury Award for Fostering United Methodist Ministries in Higher Education is a non-monetary award to recognize and encourage support of higher education & campus ministries within The United Methodist Church. The award will offer recognition to individuals who have made a significant contribution to fostering the church’s ministries in higher education at the local, district, or annual conference level of the church. To nominate someone you know for this year’s award to be given at the Kentucky Annual Conference meeting in Covington, June 3-6, request a nomination form from David Sparks at the conference office (email: dsparks@kyumc.org).  Nominations will be received through April 15.
